This page provides all of the information that we have been able to gather on Ms. Fioretti to date. Ms. Fioretti is one of two candidates from Algonquin township (the other is John Ryan). Due to the make up of the current board, at most one candidate from Algonquin can be elected on April 17th.
Mary Fioretti and her husband, Sal, have been Algonquin residents for 14 years. They have two children who are both graduates of District 300 schools. Mary was elected to the D300 School Board in 2003 and has served as Board President since 2006. Mary is a founding member and Secretary of the District 300 Foundation for Educational Excellence. She is an active advocate for education funding reform in Illinois. Mary currently works for Roosevelt University as the Coordinator for the Institute for Continued Learning.

In addition, we received answers from Ms. Fioretti (in italics) specifically on the following additional questions that voters have asked about:
"I have reached out to community members to support my campaign as evidenced by signs in the yards of those who support my candidacy. I do not have any organized group at this time backing the campaign."
"Finding a balance in being fiscally responsible and improving the performance of our students and preparing them for college and for life is the most challenging issue. Our state has an education funding mechanism which is broken. The state has a constitutional responsibility to be the primary source of funding for public education. They have shirked that duty and unfairly passed that responsibility on to property tax payers. None of us wanted to go to the taxpayers with a referendum last year, but our costs have gone up just as they have for businesses and families. Our district has grown to the extent that we needed new schools and the teachers to teach in them. Bringing the level of performance up for our students at all grade levels, as demonstrated in their test scores, in light of the state's reliance on property taxes to fund education, is the most challenging issue."
"Regarding the Open Meetings Act, there are differing opinions as to what is appropriate and what is not. Even though our board and counsel felt that we were compliant, I requested a review by the Kane County States Attorney. Our attorney requested that they review our closed session minutes for any irregularities and, if they found any, to suggest corrective action. The States Attorney was surprised at our request but after consideration, declined the review in order to avoid a conflict in case a challenge was made. No challenge has come forth. In the interim, our attorney drafted a more extensive set of guidelines and outlined text to read each and every time we are to recess into closed session. We are all acutely aware of the OMA. I believe that we have complied in the past and have taken the appropriate steps to ensure we are in compliance going forward."
