This page provides all of the information that we have been able to gather on Mr. Joe Stevens to date. Mr. Stevens is one of three candidates from Dundee township (the others are Dave Alessio and Dennis Cleveland).
Joe and his wife, Trish, have lived in Algonquin since 1995 and have three adult children. Joe was appointed to the Board of Education in July of 2006 to replace outgoing Board member John Court. Joe serves as a member of the Board Finance Committee, the Community Finance Committee and the Human Resources Committee. He is a member of the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Rotary Club. Prior to retiring in 2003, Joe was a Vice President for Sherman Health.

In addition, we received answers from Mr. Stevens (in italics) specifically on the following additional questions that voters have asked about:
I have not solicited and there are no groups backing or funding my campaign.
First of all, I would like to have had a clearer picture of the District's financial projections in some "what if" scenarios before going into negotiations blindly. This would have facilitated the financial issues being addressed earlier in the process rather than delaying them towards the end; I think the timing had the impact of frustrating if not angering people. More direct dialogue with the teacher's union representatives during negotiations would have been helpful rather than all communication being shared through the Board's attorney and the union's IEA representative. I also would have had the BOE be very clear from the get go what the parameters were and not waited for the attorney to indicate what he felt was an appropriate settlement.
Yes I do. They have kept virtually every promise made during the referendum and a majority of the Board has indicated they do not want us to move to deficit spending or another referendum within five years or longer. The referendum information indicated deficit spending would occur within 3 years and another referendum would likely be necessary in 5. That is not the view of the majority of the BOE currently. In addition, the District has seen its Moody's ratings dramatically improved and will result in significant savings to the District.
